President's Address

When first coming to the University of Michigan as an out of state student, I was unsure of where and if I would find my niche in the unfamiliar world of college, 600 miles from my home. After a semester of trying out nearly every club on campus, I learned through one of my engineering classes about Triangle Fraternity. I, as well as many others in Triangle, came to college having the normal “Animal House” view of fraternities and I never pictured myself joining one. Triangle is the furthest from that in many respects, and none of our brothers would accept it if we were to ever venture down that path. I rushed in the Winter of my freshman year and found in Triangle an environment that has not only accepted me, but helped to mold me into a better person by enabling me to expand upon qualities that I never knew I had. It is also the home of some of my best friends and I have had some of the best experiences of my life here. I can say with confidence that Triangle has allowed me to grow more as an individual over the last three years than in any other point in my life.

Triangle fraternity is unique in many ways. We are a social fraternity, which allows us to participate in events such as Greek Week and partner up with other sororities and fraternities for many campus events, but we are also something more. We limit our membership largely to Engineers, Scientists, and Architects, and this creates a unique academic experience in our organization. This allows for an amazing environment where every member can help others with classes and with professional development. I myself would not be doing research through the University were it not for an older brother’s recommendation to the professor I am now working for.

At this point in time, Triangle Fraternity has reestablished itself at 1501 Washtenaw Avenue, the largest fraternity house on campus, and one filled with amazing stories from the hundreds of brothers who have walked the halls.

Over the next year, we are looking to expand our University involvement by hosting more professional development events, such as speakers from various industries and larger events to benefit our national philanthropy, Habitat for Humanity, such as Trianglepalooza, our annual charity concert. If you are interested in learning more about these or if you have questions of how you may want to get involved with our organization, please email our Vice President of Public Relations, Ansgar Strother (astrothe@umich.edu), or our Vice President of Programming, Nick Geil (ngeil@umich.edu).

As we look to expand our involvement in the Michigan community, we are always on the lookout for motivated individuals who would like to join Triangle Fraternity. If you are interested in joining, or know someone who is, please contact our Vice President of New Members, Derek Hofsess (dhofsess@umich.edu).

If you have any other questions about our organization, be it alumni inquiries, parents wanting more information, or any other request, please, do not hesitate to give me a call at (314) 402-7266 or send me an email at dillonph@umich.edu. Also, if there is something that I cannot answer for you via phone or email, I would love to sit down with you and discuss our organization as well as any comments/concerns that you may have.

I wish you the best, and as always, Go Blue!

Sincerely,
Dillon Helfers
